[SWFObject] SWFObject Digest, Vol 1, Issue 18

I guess I completely misunderstood the idea of express install. I was
thinking this was essentially a silent install. So, that explains the
issues I'm having with that. I still need to look further into why it is
proceeding with loading the Flash 8 content when I clearly only have
Flash 7.0.61 installed.

I've had a number of people tell me that a swf I have on my site is
loading without prompting them to upgrade. I have verified this. When
Flash 7 is installed and I am requiring Flash 8, the swf begins playing
rather than showing the upgrade message. If I enable express install, I
actually just get a blank area where the swf should be. I cannot explain
what might be occuring. I'm wondering if it's possible that our company
is somehow blocking express install and that is partially responsible
for the second behavior, but I do not understand why the detection is
failing. When I go to this page
http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/flashversion.html it does say I have
7.0.61 installed as expected, but it is not prompting me to upgrade on
my site where I am specifying 8.0.0 as the required version.

I have the same issue, though it just started to occur - let me know if
you find a solution (I'll do the same as I am searching too).

Thanks,
mike

you can use my expressinstall page to test your system...

http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/expressinstall.html

this page requires 8.0.23 - so it will try to upgrade you if you have
anything lower.

if this works, then it's probably an issue with your swf file - you can
look at the fla that comes with swfobject and compare the code/
movieclips i use in that.

also: it's best to test your expressinstall stuff with flash player 6
- sometimes if you are using a custom upgrade message, flash player 6 is
really picky about the stuff you can show when you publish from flash 8.

How do I roll back my browsers so that I can test older versions of
flash?

Never been able to figure that one out.

Thanks for the pointers,
Michael
