so are you using a mac?

it's possible that it just took a really long time to contact the  
adobe update server...

i think when you click the button, i don't hide it or anything, so it  
just sits there until the update starts. (allowing you to click  
multiple times)

you could watch the browser status bar (or activity window in safari,  
or use livehttpheaders in firefox/moz) and see if it is making the  
request
