[SWFObject] Javascript to Flash - works once

I'm able to make one successful call (to execute a Flash function  
from javascript) to the swfObject within my web page, but only one.

The javascript function calls once, and Flash responds once, but then  
all future javascript function calls to my Flash movie, does nothing.

This seems very strange to me. Has any one else experienced a similar  
problem?
