i'm not sure why that would happen... i've seen a few reports of  
people having issues with running stuff on the first frame of their  
movies, but i've never seen it happen myself, and they usually end up  
finding out it was an error in their code that is causing it.

maybe you could try a different preloader? or place the preloader  
inside your main swf instead of in a separate file?

or maybe you are just not sending in the flashvars properly?
