[SWFObject] swf address and flash player 7

I just took my first look at swfaddress. I notice in the readme that Flash  8 is required for the samples to work. Is this because swfaddress itself requires fp8, or is it something specific to the samples? What happens if I publish to fp7? Hopefully the addressing works, or at least, fails silently?
