[SWFObject] ExpressInstall, Macromedia & Adobe servers issue?

I'm new to this list, so apologize if this has been covered before, but
could not find a mention of it on the site blogs or the thread archive
search.

I'm running a site in Flash 7.0.19.0 as a test, and SWFObject is
configured to accept only 7.0.63.0 or higher. Doing everything according
to the book, i.e. HTHML & AS implementation. At first I was puzzled
because the ExpressInstall would not work at all, it would 'illegally'
recognize the swf and play the content. I created a frame 'before' my
loader and placed ExpressInstall there, and it now stopped the timeline.

But then I noticed that when I clicked the 'update' button, nothing
would happen. I eventually tracked the problem down to the
expressinstall.as file. One version worked, the other didn't. I ran a
file diff on them, and found that the more older version I had used
fpdownload.adobe.com and the recent version of SWFObject (v.1.4.4) uses
fpdownload.macromedia.com.

Whenever I use the expressinstall.as file with fpdownload.adobe.com, the
autoUpdater.swf does not seem to load; pressing the 'update' button (or
calling ExpressInstall.init(); ) does not do anything. When I use the
newer version which uses fpdownload.macromedia.com, it works fine. But
when I type in
"http://fpdownload.[company].com/pub/.../autoUpdater.swf", for both
domains, the swf comes up (blank, but it comes up) -- so the file is
there on the adobe server.

Why does the adobe.com domain not work, when both domains have the file
present on their server? I thought both domains were supposed to work?

And how is it I have two versions of the expressinstall.as file, (from
different downloads at different times, uncustomized), and both indicate
they were updated 12-20-2005, both v.1.0, but they are not the same
file, with the only significant difference being the domains?

I've heard of other people having bizarre problems with ExpressInstall,
and I wonder for how many of those this is indeed the cause.

Thanks,

Joseph
