[SWFObject] Initializing variable

well you are on the right track...

the one difference you'll have with getQueryParamValue() is that it  
returns an empty string if the value isn't found, so instead of  
checking for null, you'll want to check for an empty string.

you could modify your code in the flash movies like so:

if (vol == null || vol == "") vol = 100;
