[SWFObject] swfObject script within target div?

Hi all,

Is this an acceptable way to use swfObject:

<div id="flashContent">
<script type="text/javascript">
... swfObject JS here ...
so.write("flashContent");
</script>
</div>

A co-worker is using the swfObject in this way... seems to work, but is 
it acceptable?
