Flash detection is now working on the mac side.
I have no explanation for why it was not working yesterday.
I agree that the uninstall is / was the problem.

there's no issues with them that i know of - you might be seeing  
posts about something else.

if you run the uninstaller and then reinstall the plugin, then it  
should be working fine.

an easy test is to visit my example pages (linked from the main  
swfobject page) and see if the detection works there, and if it  
fails, try visiting the page that displays the installed plugin  
version and see what version it thinks you have.
