That's it!!

Oh boy that was driving me nuts!

Many thanks Geoff, it was the last update from 5-9 that did the trick. I'm
also happy to tell you that fixes both cases of the problem.

For the benefit of others having a similar problem, you need to download a
replacement jscript.dll file and replace the one in C:\Windows\System32
whilst in safe mode with the updated one. ( I renamed the old one first)

You might also be interested to know since I did this it makes no difference
if in Advanced Internet options the Disable script debugging is on or off
(on that particular PC anyway)

Once again many thanks

Cheers
Drew

did you check the 'disable script dubugging' option in advanced options?

it's a known issue that causes the users to still need to click to activate
the controls even though they are embedded using javascript.

there's also one other issue that's really obscure - listed as the last
update here:

http://blog.deconcept
com/2005/12/15/internet-explorer-eolas-changes-and-the-flash-plugin/

so first look at the update from 2-21-2006, if that doesn't work, check the
last update from 5-9

Hi Muzak,
Yep, I'm aware of that and javascript is enabled, Virtaul tours use
javascript and they can see them working, albeit with the now infamous
Click to activate" notice
John: Here's the thing, on his PC I even went to Geof's Example pages
(thinking these are known and trusted coded pages and would work ok, but
they don't either.
It has to be a setting somewhere on his PC I'll have to go through my
settings matched against his and see what's different .
The worrying thing is, he is not the sort to alter anything, if he doesn't
understand it he doesn't touch it. It's as it came from the Computer store.
I'll investigate his settings again and let you know if I find the problem,
it is driving me nuts at the moment, I'm hoping the other client with the
same problem will be fixed if I can fix this one.
Something turned on or off is not allowing the swfobject script to work (or
the adobe one), which as I say is a worry to me at the moment.

Java and JavaScript are two completly different things.
Having Java installed (or not installed) has nothing to do with swfobject.
Make sure they have JavaScript enabled in their browser (it is by default,
but they may have it disabled).

Muzak

Hi,
I have a report from several clients that the fix I applied for them is not
working, they still see the ugly grey box outlining the flash file, and they
still get the "Click to activate" notice..
When I view themn on my computers they are fine, I have also viewed them
from their PC's and they are quite correct, their browser seems to be
ignoring not only swfobject code replacement, but also that too of Adobe.
I have tried checking their systems for Java and they have it installed and
they can quite readily see virtual tour items that use java so I know it's
installed, can anyone shed any light on this please? as it is looking like
the work I have carried out applying the fix isn't working (to a few of my
clients anyway) This is not just my fixes but other sites too that I know to
be working correctly.
It has to be noted this is a bit of a blip, as 99% of my clients see the
same sites with no problem at all.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers
Drew
